Springfield Class 4/27/2011

Hot and sweaty class today with 12-14 people.

I did warmups and KJN gave me some great corrections. I will describe how warmup should be done as I understand it:

  1. formal recognition of senior members and instructor ( I need to get clarification on bowing protocol )
  2. start from Choonbee to formally start
  3. Before each exercise/stretch describe how to start and which direction
  4. The first exercise should be a warmup which is SBD related such as hopping as switching your feet, etc.
  5. Do your stretches describing direct, etc.
  6. At end finish in Choonbee
  7. bow out to senior members and instructor
We focused on Expansion, Contraction and finishing moves fully.
- basics - some motions get a little extra wind up such as retreating double hand middle block ( I need to create or find type in form manual a SBD english dictionary )
- Hyungs - I worked on Chil Sung O Ro and well I need to re-learn it :)
        - down the center when doing the hugal stances with a low and back high soo do block before the in/out kick
                - The kick, allow the body to naturally twist as it would doing basics so the left shoulder will rotate forward (I found if you get someone to stand directly in front of you that I could do this kick much better since it forces you to bring your leg out to the side so you do not hit the person standing in front of you. thanks Eric)
                - When you finish the kick it should come down with force like it should when doing it during basics with the hip forward. This should feel natural and allow you to connect to the motion.
                - When you in/out kick has fully finished you will do the reverse punch and finish is a proper front stance and pause to enjoy the completion of the punch.
                - a little extra wind up by extending the punching arm a little bit more before the twisting into the double (not remembering Korean for this motion) sideways back fist for lack of a better term :(

We did 3 step sparring
- back stance right foot forward left hand high to meet attacking punch right foot and hip forward left hand low
- sliding back doing double open hand shoulder height block right foot forward, sacrorip jassi
- sliding back pulling right hip back, hugal stance right foot forward doing a reverse high block with left arm
- grabbing punching arm, pulling your left hip back not moving left foot at all while doing a right hand upper cut to attacker
- follow up with short right front kick.
